David LaRiviere – Artist in Residence

Trinity Square Video is happy to welcome Saskatoon-based artist David LaRiviere for a production residency November 16 – 27, 2015. LaRiviere will be working on his upcoming video installation, Evil From the Outset? documenting the horific events surrounding the case of serial killer Edmund Harbinger. Structured as a routine documentary about the so called “C.E.O. Butcher” who stalked CEOs in the Hamptons after suffering a traumatic childhood locked in the basement of a neoconservative think-tank, Evil From the Outset? draws high finance conceits into an uncomfortable proximity to disturbing psychopathologies.

About David LaRiviere

David LaRiviere received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta in 1989 and an MA Fine Art degree from Goldsmiths College, University of London in London in 1996. Since January of 2008 LaRiviere has been the Artistic Director of PAVED Arts in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

LaRiviere’s current art practice encompasses audio art, video, curation, web art, performance and public intervention. His interest in a variety of media is influenced by a research path that includes a still developing interest in continental philosophy. In recent years his absurdist take on “The Art Gallery” was featured at Truck Gallery in Calgary and Neutral Ground in Regina, with iterations of his “Come Visit the Athabasca Tar Sands” project appearing at the Mendel Art Gallery and Noxious Sector Projects in Seattle. His current project– emanating from a feature length single channel work entitled “Evil From The Outset?”– is being developed as a expanded multi-channel work for gallery installations.
