Pantayo – performance + lecture with Standpartners
Friday, February 15, 7PM
In conjunction with Disputed Bodies curated by Patrick Cruz
Pantayo is an all-women kulintang ensemble based in Toronto. Our music is grounded in the traditions of Maguindanaoan &T’boli peoples but explores the possibility of kulintang influenced by our identities as Diasporic Filipinas.
A mix of chambercore, dream jazz, semi-traditional, and post-contemporary, standpartners weaves stringy currents of melodies that tear at the seams. Drawing from their Filipino and Persian roots, Charity Cruz (violin, samples) and Isaiah Farahbakhsh (cello, samples) navigate the contrast of self-expression and cultural assimilation through a quasi-composed landscape of sound, noise, and space.
This event is supported by the Ontario Arts Council.
