Reiseerzählung: An Evening With Karl May
Friday, March 1, 7PM
In conjunction with the exhibition Disputed Bodies curated by Patrick Cruz, artist Simon M. Benedict will present an original performance.
Simon M. Benedict is an artist and translator of franco-québécois and Abenaki descent working with video, sound, performance, and photography. His work combines existing audiovisual material and archival documents to examine our relationship to various fictional and historical narratives, and their impact on our perception of unmediated reality. Using this material, he creates new narratives that explore and critique the conventions and tropes of popular culture and recorded history. Benedict holds an MFA from the University of Guelph and a BFA from Concordia University. His work has recently been exhibited at YYZ Artists’ Outlet (Toronto), Evans Contemporary (Peterborough), VY (Quebec City(, Dazibao (Montreal), and NRW-Forum Düsseldorf (Germany).
