badgrandpa, Where does your Quinoa come from? (2017)

This project aims to create consciousness about the origin, distribution and culture clash surrounding quinoa in South America (Perú) versus the Western World. Using technology I want to create contrast between the lifestyle that that quinoa eaters from the Andes have compared to the ones in the Europe and the USA. In the Andes there is no such thing as youtube bloggers, vegan lifestyles, Instagram food pics or dieting.

The fact that quinoa is considered ‘posh’, trendy and expensive is affecting the way Andean communities live. Prices have risen and the international quinoa market has boomed. Now, what in the 80s and 90s was considered ‘peasant food’ in Perú, is becoming too expensive to be eaten by Peruvians themselves. This project is dedicated to the unsung heroes that have been growing and harvesting quinoa since the times of the Incas and never made it to your Instagram story.

Lara Torrance, Nice to be Here (2018)

Nice to be Here is an immersive Virtual Reality experience designed to raise awareness of endangered species in New England.

In this virtual landscape you can find the 12 federally-listed species that are currently protected in New England: Canada Lynx, Eastern Cougar, Gray Wolf, Indiana Bat, Northern Long-eared Bat, Atlantic Coast Piping Plover, Red Knot, Roseate Tern, Bog Turtle, Northern Redbelly Cooter, Atlantic Salmon and a Karner Blue Butterfly.

The artist modeled these 12 animals and placed them in a virtual landscape that resembles the New England landscape. Whilst you move around this landscape you encounter these animals as if made form glass to represent there fragile status in the environment.


Radiance is a research platform and database for VR art. Its mission is to present artists working with VR from all over the world to create visibility and accessibility for VR art and for faster adoption of virtual technologies. The platform works closely with artists, institutions and independent curators to select the highest quality of virtual art for public institutional exhibitions.


Alesandra Miro Quesada is a Motion Graphics Artist and VR + AR developer currently working under the name badgrandpa. Recently graduating from Moving Image at Central Saint Martins Alesandra has a passion for technology and explores how it can be used as a successful communication tool. Her practice merges 3D animation music and dance to create immersive experiences that capture her audience.

Lara Torrance is a multidisciplinary designer and a recent graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design, receiving an honors BFA in Graphic Design. Her work is focused on using new and emerging technology in playful, social, and non traditional ways. Having mastered the full Adobe Suite, Torrance began using Cinema 4D, Rhinoceros 3D and Blender to further develop her 3D and Motion Graphics skills. She now work towards strong concepts backed by the robust technological solutions and away from acts of spectacle and tech for tech sake.
