Maytham Jbara is an Iraqi filmmaker and producer, based in Toronto, who studied cinema and TV at the University of Baghdad, and was engaged with Iraq Independent Film Center for several years since 2015, working on such films as “Son of Babylon”, “Path of Maryam”, “The Journey” by Mohammed Al-Daradji, “Haifa Street” by Mohannad Hayal and “Mosul 980” by Ali Saeed, screened and awarded at Berlinale, Cairo, Busan, and TIFF. In 2021, Maytham debuted as a director and producer with his short film “Qadr”, selected at the LA Shorts International Film Festival. He has also produced three other short films and associate produced a feature “Hanging Gardens” by Ahmed Yassin, premiered at La Biennale di Venezia and selected at Busan, Singapore and Red Sea Film Festival in 2022. Currently, he is working on several feature films in different stages of development and pre-production – “Ibraham’s Journey” by Shaker K. Tahrer, ”Red Bus in Baghdad” by Ali Saeed, “Madness and Honey Days” by Ahmed Yassin and a documentary feature “You Shoot, I Print” by Ali Arkady. Most of Maytham’s work focuses on human rights and social justice issues, and he always aspires to support and teach new filmmakers.
